Highly collectable! A stunning green and yellow Sommerso faceted bowl by Mandruzzato of Murano is an exceptional piece made circa 1960's.
What is Sommerso Glass art?
Sommerso (Italian for "submerged") is the Murano glassmaking technique of creating two or more layers of contrasting glass without the colours mixing together. It is formed by dipping coloured glass into molten glass of a different colour, before blowing the glass into the required form.

The Riihimaki glassworks was founded in 1910, in the town of Riihimaki, Finland, by M. A. Kolehmainen and his son A. P. Kolehmainen. At first they made domestic glass and container glass, and began making glass bottles and window glass in 1919. Riihimaki became the largest glass factory in Finland after buying the Kaukalahti glassworks in 1927. Riihimaki was renamed Riihimaen Lasi Oy in 1937, and Aimo Okkolin began designing for Riihimaki in the same year. Helena Tynell joined Riihimaki in 1949, followed by Nanny Still in 1949, and Tamara Aladin in 1959. Together these four were chief designers for Riihimaki over the next 20 years, and produced a great many popular designs which can still be found today. In 1968 Erkkitapio Siiroinen began designing for Riihimaki as a freelancer. Riihimaki was bought by Ahlstrom in 1985, and merged with Karhula in 1988 under the name Ahlstrom Riihimaen Lasi Oy. In 1990 the Riihimaki factory was closed.

The Räder company was founded on 1st of January 1968 by Hartmut Räder.
At a time in which the Beatles, the Stones and the hippies were ushering in an era full of euphoria and freedom. With his emotional products that satisfied the desire for better design in everyday life, Hartmut Räder responded to the needs of the zeitgeist of this revolutionary time. It all began with small products that were handcrafted in limited editions in their own workshops. A little later – completed by a paper and stationery collection, greeting cards and inspiration that Hartmut Räder found all over the world – the company grew into an innovator on the gift items market in the 1980s.
